We Wrote to Each Other for Months Before Meeting Over Coffee and the Chaplet

About patience, faith, and love that grows slowly

Marcin always believed that true things need time. And it wasn’t just about wine or good books, but above all about relationships—those that have a chance to withstand the test of life. That’s why, when he started writing to Julia on a dating site for believers, he immediately knew this wouldn’t be a fast story, but something much deeper.

The first message he sent her was maybe a bit shy, but sincere.

“Hi, I see you also love prayer and are looking for someone to share that path. Maybe we could start with a prayer together?” he wrote, his fingers trembling slightly over the keyboard.

Julia’s reply came after a few hours, then another, and another after that. That’s how their conversation began, lasting for months. They wrote about everything—daily challenges, favorite Bible passages, joys and sorrows. And although they never met face to face, their conversations were like coffee shared with an old friend—full of warmth and openness.

Marcin loved the moment after a long day’s work when he would sit by the computer and read her messages. Sometimes she’d weave in playful remarks, other times she shared reflections that touched his heart.

“It’s a bit like a virtual pilgrimage, only without the fatigue,” she once wrote, and he replied that a pilgrimage of hearts is the best journey one can take.

Though he missed meeting in person, they both understood that sometimes it’s worth waiting to build something on a solid foundation. And so, slowly, step by step, trust grew.

One day Marcin suggested they meet at a small café near the church, where they could say the rosary together. Julia agreed with a smile in her message:

“Coffee and the rosary? Sounds like a perfect plan!”

The meeting was gentle, full of subtle smiles and a little nervousness. The café smelled of freshly ground coffee and pastries, and outside the window, the sun cast warm reflections on the table where they sat.

-“I’m glad we can finally talk in person,” - Julia said, gently adjusting her scarf.

Marcin smiled and took out the rosary he always carried with him.

-“This is important to me—to start with prayer. Because love not founded on faith is like a house without foundations,” - he added.

After a moment of silence—more full of presence than awkwardness—they began praying the rosary together. The prayer that had connected them in words now found its reflection in reality—in their gazes, in the touch of hands that, though gentle, spoke more than a thousand words.

After the prayer, they ordered another coffee and sat closer, talking about everything and nothing—about how God leads their path, their dreams, and how sometimes patience is the most beautiful expression of love.

Marcin thought then that their story was proof that it’s worth waiting and believing. Because although life can be full of rush, sometimes that calm and perseverance are the key to true happiness.

-“You’re like an answer to my prayer,” - he whispered, looking at Julia.

She smiled shyly, and their hands met on the table.

That’s how their journey began—not from sudden infatuation, but from patiently getting to know each other through words, prayer, and coffee. Because sometimes love is exactly that closeness which ripens over months of conversation, to finally blossom in the heart.
