A Heart Ready for His Will
When I joined JustSingleChristians.com, I wasn’t looking for perfection, just someone who loved God, loved to laugh, and could handle the fact that I sometimes burned Sunday pancakes.
At 41, I had a full life, a good job in community outreach, a close-knit church family, and a cat named Moses who thought he ruled the apartment. But there was a quiet space in my heart, one that no amount of volunteering or busy schedules could fill.
One evening, after yet another friend’s wedding where I’d been lovingly told, “Your turn, Abigail!”, I decided to try something new. With a prayer and a cup of chamomile tea, I created my profile on JustSingleChristians.com. I wrote honestly: “I’m looking for someone who loves Jesus, believes laughter is holy medicine, and can survive my cooking.”
Two days later, a message appeared:
“I’m not afraid of laughter or bad cooking — but if there’s singing involved, I’ll need divine help.”
His name was Daniel, 43, a youth pastor with an easy smile and a profile full of warmth and humor. He listed his hobbies as “playing guitar, hiking, and making coffee strong enough to wake the choir.”
I replied:
“Well, I can’t promise perfect pitch, but I do make decent coffee. Strong enough to wake the sermon, at least.”
He sent back:
“Perfect. Let’s combine forces — you bring the coffee, I’ll bring the grace.”
And that’s how it began — two slightly nervous, faith-filled people, meeting through messages that made us both smile.

Over the next couple of weeks, we wrote every night. We talked about our favorite Psalms, the books that had shaped our faith, and the awkwardness of modern dating. He told me about leading his youth group’s camping trips (“Half ministry, half mosquito survival training”), and I told him about teaching Sunday school to a group of energetic five-year-olds (“Basically controlled chaos with crayons”).
One evening, he wrote:
“Would you like to meet in person? There’s a new café near the park. I promise to pray over the coffee before we drink it.”
I laughed out loud and said yes.

When I arrived at the café, Daniel was already there — holding a bouquet of daisies and looking a little nervous.
- Abigail? - he asked, standing as I walked in.
- Yes. - I smiled. - You must be Daniel. And those must be bribes for my forgiveness if you sing during coffee?
He laughed.
- No singing today, I promise. Unless the coffee’s really good.
We talked for hours. About faith, family, purpose, and the funny moments of trying to follow God’s timing when life has other plans. At one point, he said,
- You know, I prayed this morning that if this meeting was meant to be, it would feel peaceful. And it does.
I smiled.
- That’s exactly what I prayed, too.
When we left, he walked me to my car. Before I got in, he said,
- I’d like to see you again. Maybe next time we can go for a walk instead, fewer coffee refills, more fresh air.
- Only if Moses approves. - I teased.
- Your cat? - he asked.
I nodded.
- He’s the real gatekeeper.
He laughed.
- Then I’ll start praying now.

That was a year ago. Today, Daniel and I still laugh about our first messages, still share coffee that’s a little too strong, and still pray together every morning.
We’ve learned that love isn’t about rushing or perfection — it’s about patience, prayer, and two people walking side by side, trusting God with every step.
